History of the Bariþronian Language: Ancient Bariþronian Era

(175-212)


Since the day Arbasha created men, He became deeply tied with them. He aided them during their progress as society, taught them the necessary skills to survive and blessed all they did. In the beginning everything was happening as planned. Arbasha saw everything He created was good and that pleased Him greatly.


In the beginning, the Great Father communicated with His children through the sky. He used the heavens as canvas and with his hands he manipulated the clouds so that everyone could see and understand all His messages. This was the only way He interacted with humanity for almost two centuries, and at this point, humankind did not realize that they could produce speech using their mouths and transmit their ideas through voice.


As time passed, Arbasha revealed and taught humans the abilities they required to have a more complex but satisfying life. Every breakthrough humankind had achieved, was done with His help. The year 175 was going to arrive and Arbasha was not only going to reveal humanity one of their unique capabilities as species, but also give them a great gift, a gift none of them had ever imagined.


After the New Year’s Eve, He surprised his children by telling them to have a blessed and great new year with His own voice and language. This astonished everyone since they had never heard their Father’s voice, neither they thought that oral communication was possible. This was only the first part of their gift, as in the rest He placed His vocabulary into their minds without the need of having to learn it. The Bariþronians became surprised as they could not only talk and interact with others, but also to communicate with their Father directly. It was an incredible year beginning and they became more enthusiastic than ever and even more than with other gifts they had received from their Creator. And since that very day, they named their nation Bariþronia, and its capital Ust-Pernmetan.


However, not everyone received the same gift. To some, Arbasha gave an increased visual perception and a natural inclination towards arts and others a great agility to perform physically and easiness to interact with their bodies. Arbasha did so in order that the entire community could complement and help each other to learn each other’s skills. As days passed, communication struggles started to become more frequent, and the ones who received speech started to neglect everyone else. A sense of superiority started to empower them since they were the ones who had the definitive and seamless communication channel with their Father.

As the population grew, some people started to explore and settle in new lands within the island. At the middle of the same year humans received speech as gift, a new city was being founded near the capital. Its name was Ust-Mtſur and most of the people who inhabited it were the ones who received the talent to produce intelligible oral messages. By the middle of the year, discrimination was not so severe, and everyone could settle in the new city, despite their aptitudes. When the city was newborn, there was just a small group of people the ones who started diminishing those who could not talk with Arbasha, but they were starting to multiply. At the end of the year, those who could speak banned everyone else from settling in their city and started to mistreat the rest who had chance to stay in it.


A new day began in Ust-Pernmetan, the capital city of Bariþronia. It was now the year 182. Seven years passed since Ust-Mtſur was founded and all the Bariþronians got ready to celebrate the seventh anniversary of having received the Ancient Bariþronian Language from Arbaſa himself. That day, people gathered in Ust-Mtſur to celebrate the Festival of the Great Voice, as they named the festivity. It took place at the middle of the year, the same day Ust-Mtſur’s first rock was laid.


The Festival of the Great Voice was a festivity of great joy, and they memorialized it in a beautiful party hall the Bariþronians had started building in 175 and finished in 178. Before the Party Hall was finished, the holiday was celebrated in the town center. The festival was celebrated by singing songs, telling stories, creating poetry and giving speeches of gratitude to Arbaſa. The holiday lasted for 7 days and it was the most important celebration of all Naánda at the time.


The first three years, everyone was allowed into the celebration despite the gift they had received, but when the Party Hall was finished, only those privileged to talk were able to join the event and those who could not, were banned from it.


Back then, the total population of Bariþronia was barely surpassing 2,500 (At a 4% annual population growth). During the seven years of having received the gift of speech, only 260 were able to talk, and from that number, only 18 were taught the language. The number of speakers slowly increased only because parents educated their children to make use of the language, but there were also people actively teaching the language to those who did not acquire it naturally.


The practice of revealing the Ancient Bariþronian language to everyone else was a reason to become expelled from the society, and therefore, few people dared to instruct the rest. The duty of teaching the language was also arduous and required a lot of patience, this factor also contributed to the decline in the number of instructors. The few brave individuals who shared the skill of speech were highly protected and blessed by Arbaſa, as they were fulfilling his plans faithfully and were never caught by their prosecutors.


It was natural for the rest of the population to want to join the celebration, but they were detained by either of two truths: The fact that they would not feel worthy of being there even if they were allowed to join because they didn’t receive Arbaſa’s gift, and the fact that they would be caught and punished if they managed to sneak into the event. However, even these facts could not stop some people from somehow making their way into the party.


It did not take long for some guests to find out that they were part of those who muttered intelligibly. When the intruders knew that now most of the guests discovered that they had infiltrated the event, they tried their best to attempt to pronounce even a single word. Alas, for them, it did not turn out well. The trespassers were taken forcefully by the Barithronites into the main hall where they were mocked, and even tortured mercilessly until they said something understandable. The intruders were totally unable to pronounce a single word, and they were tormented to death because of their disability. Their voices could not talk when they were alive, but their blood accused the Bariþronians unto Arbaſa because of what they had done.

After Arbaſa listened to the clamor of the victims’ blood, He became enraged because the Bariþronians used his language to exalt and magnify themselves instead of being humble to spread His gift to those who did not receive it. His intentions to fortify and unify the society became fruitless as the Bariþronians segregated those who babbled even more as time went by. He waited patiently nonetheless, hoping that they would meet His goals someday and at the end of the day, it did not result as He hoped.


Arbaſa decided to discipline His children to humility and deprived them of what they valued the most: His language. It was a hard decision to take for Him because He enjoyed greatly to communicate with them through His own tongue, but it was more painful to know that the Bariþronians abused it for their own benefit. So, at the end of the first feast day, while they slept, He erased the knowledge of his language from the mouths of everyone who exploited it.

The dawn of the second feast day began, the Bariþronians were already prepared and anxious to continue their celebration, but the moment they tried to talk with each other, they became bewildered as they expressed themselves just like the people they had assassinated the day before. They could not articulate a single word no matter how hard they tried to do so.


Although they could not speak Ancient Bariþronian, they were still allowed to comprehend it when they heard it. Later that day, from a sudden, Arbaſa’s voice resounded through the palace’s hallways, and He scolded the Bariþronians strongly. He revealed to them that He erased His language from their tongues forever and no matter what they did, they would not recover it again.


After that, He spoke into the minds of the few who taught the language that they were still allowed to continue to use his vocabulary, but solely to converse with Him. But he did so with a caveat: to prevent further misuses, he made the language not understandable and unteachable to those who could keep it. The only way they could possibly use it was by giving meaning to words through their minds, but they would not able to identify what they were saying, only Arbaſa knew what they meant. When He ended his reprimand, Arbaſa immediately detracted the understanding of His words from them.


With five more feast days left, some Bariþronians wept uncontrollably and others became infuriated against their Father and blamed those who jabbered because of their penalty. This incident ended their celebration dreadfully and their society plunged into a 7-year period of chaos caused by their inability to communicate orally. This era was named “Time of the Twisted Tongues” as most of the Bariþronians babbled uncontrollably to try to reacquire Arbaſa's lexicon, but their attempts were in vain, they would not recover it unless He allowed so. Eventually, at the end of the seventh year, they resigned and went back to share their ideas through kinesthetic gestures and simple vocal sounds once again.


As time went on, they grew in knowledge and more complex ideas were needed to be broadcasted. It was already the year 212 and the Bariþronian society knew that they needed to develop their own language to accelerate their technological progress. The way they named people started to become also very confusing, given that they labeled everyone by their aspect or a common gesture they associated to certain person.
